“While we were surprised to hear news about our particular location closing, Sears has been in the news about closures for a while now," said James Stifel and Craig Deitelzweig, EVPs Brooks Shopping Centers, LLC, owners of Cross County Shopping Center. "Retail demand is strong here and their departure will create an opportunity to re-lease that same space to a concept that will continue to drive traffic, more shopper interest, and more sales."
The store opened at the mall in 1987 and served as one its main anchors since.
The shopping center's Sears store management told center officials that media was not allowed on the property and that they had no comment about the upcoming closure, said Liz Pollack, senior manager of Marketing for the center.
Corporate Sears officials said shoppers can expect sales to begin by Thursday, June 6, with a full closure sometime in late July.
Sears declined to say how many employees would be affected by the closure and a search of the state Workforce Adjustment Notification site failed to find a notice of closure to the state.
